PV Inverter = Solar generation (Primary)
Battery = Energy storage (Secondary)
Generator = Backup supply
AC Loads = Power consumption (house and cabin)
Staying in our cabin offers a unique opportunity to experience self-sufficiency in a beautiful, natural setting. As you enjoy your stay, here are some important details about our power system.
Power Source:
Our cabin shares a renewable power system with the main house and you can see a near realtime view of our power supply on this page ("Have we got power?").
The solar system is charging the battery bank which provides lights and USB charging ports for the cabin.
The system is not running at its full capacity yet (we are waiting for a bigger battery) so you will have to use the petrol generator that we provide when you need power for cooking (jug, toaster, microwave, air fryer, hot plates)
Energy Conservation Tips:
Please help us conserve energy by turning off lights in the shower, toilet, and main cabin areas when they are not in use.
Be mindful of your overall power usage, especially during hours when we are relying on the battery bank.
Thank you for helping us maintain a sustainable living environment. Enjoy your stay in our beautiful off-grid retreat!
Please be aware that the battery bank in our cabin operates differently from standard phone batteries. It is crucial not to let the battery charge drop below 70% as this can cause permanent damage.
How to Monitor and Conserve Energy:
A guide table to the left of the battery voltage will indicate the current battery level and provide guidelines on how to conserve energy.
If you notice the battery level approaching 70%, please minimise your use of high-power devices and switch off any unnecessary lights and appliances.
We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the sustainability of our retreat. Thank you for helping us preserve the unique off-grid living experience at Tōtaravárre.
